is fabulous. Temps are now in the 70's and it is delightful. It is time to hit the trails and drink in endless blue skies. We'd driven past this place a few times and they were very eager to get into that hole.
Then we saw the trailhead and started our walk and the whining began. "Oh, I didn't know it was going to be a trail. I thought we could climb the rock. This is boring and easy." As so often on our walks out on public trails it seems all 'the good parts' are off limits. They are usually off the trail and we're not allowed to wander from the trails. In California there was this one state park we loved and would always sneak off trail to climb into one of the caves. Often we would get caught and be scolded and told not to do it again.
So, off we went on the trail until we were in the hole. When alas, the girls spotted some teen boys climbing the front of the rock and they nearly ran back down the whole trail to begin again, this time 'the fun way.'
Even though they got a bit banged up they thought it was much funner. A good lesson for us parents. It is such a common misnomer that kids always pick the easiest route. I find quite the opposite is true. When really given the choice I find they often pick the more challenging path- whether it be academically, physically or spiritually. They enjoy the challenge.
I so often wonder who is standing in their way for reaching the top of their world- me or them?
