This weeks' comes from kickintheheadcomic and is an ode to one of my all time favorite movies My Neighbor Totoro. These little black things are called Makkurokurosuke. I forget what they're called in English since we usually watch this in Japanese. They might be blackies or dust bunnies? I forget. In any case they're adorable. I couldn't pick just one picture.
And since this is our Halloween month we'll be getting a little scarier in the bentos! I've found some really adorable ones so definitely stay tuned. I'll post my fav next week so we all have time to plan and prep for surprising our littles with a good spooky lunch. These would also be great for a Halloween party and for eating before getting all of that candy. They are just rice covered in nori. Often Japanese put a bit of fish in the inside of the rice ball for some protein. One of the girls' favorite is "Tsuna" which is tuna salad. It's a good tummy filler before the candy! The eyes look like steamed fish paste but egg whites would work great.
