So here I am sitting in an internet cafe using prepaid minutes and I get an email from a reporter who interviewed me from the OC Register. The interview went very well in my mind and I have another email from a friend saying, "Oh, I read it- you should check it out." hmmm. my suspicions begin to rise. I read the article and am MORTIFIED!! It has me quoted as saying "Drug em." for tips on flying with kids!
The real story goes- he asks me my tips for having toddlers sit well behaved on planes. I go into this long explanation about how parenting cannot first begin on an airplane. You have to know your own kids. If they can't sit through a dinner at a restaurant perhaps a 10 hour flight is a little unreasonable. He keeps at me with, "What if they can't and here you are?" So I say, "Well, for my children I would just say, 'We stay in our seats now, just like in the car.'" and he says, "What if they don't listen?" "What if you have the kind of kid that runs off?" He keeps at me with "What if's" and I finally say laughing, "Well, then I guess you can follow the advise my pediatrician gave to me and does with his own children and just drug them." So the article prints with, "What tips do you have for parents?" me: "drug em." (laughs) That's it! My entire answer. Already there are comments posted saying, "How sad, this woman is a preschool teacher." and "The drugging of children is never funny." Ok, so I do find humor in those comments but still am mortified to have my name associated with that article!
